The intention of vision therapy is to stimulate all brain centers involved in the performance of a visual task. Since an estimated 75-90 percent of all classroom learning comes to a student via the visual pathways, interference along these pathways can cause difficulty with the learning process. Symptoms of vision difficulties can present themselves as blurriness, double vision and/or loss of place when reading, headache, and fatigue. A parent or teacher should watch for these signs. A significant percentage of patients with these vision problems cannot be successfully treated with lenses and/or prism alone. Vision therapy is the treatment of choice, programmed by a certified vision therapist, for a number of dysfunctions involving accommodation, ocular motor and binocular disorders. Vision therapy makes use of vision exercises that can be done in the office and/or at home to improve the efficiency of the visual system.
